That Toxic Relationship Ain't Worth Your Life, Run!
Many people say it's difficult to leave a toxic relationship, in a call for love. But is it worth your life?
Toxic relationships, mostly associated with narcissistic partners have become rampant in higher institutions. These have wreaked havoc in the lives of young campus girls who find it difficult to leave them, due to what they term as love and commitment.
Narcissism is associated with superiority, pride and lack of empathy. Many ladies, despite the exploitation and violence exerted on them, find themselves trapped in relationships with partners exhibiting narcissistic behaviours, in hopes that things will change for better one day.
In campus, "come we stay kinda marriages" are common. And cases of heated arguments that always lead to violence and humiliation upon girls are also not strange.
I once lived next to a room where violence, between young couples living together was like daily bread. Whether during the day or at night, the guy would use the pettiest reason to strike up a fight with the lady, call her every sort of names, throw things, beat and threaten to kill her.
The lady would cry almost every day while lamenting his controlling nature and swear to leave him, vacate the house and report him to the police and landlady. However, it would only be a matter of time before the two start calling each other sweet names and engage in romance.
Wondering what would make the lady stick around, I spoke to a few ladies who had been subjected to the same. "It is so hard to leave. Whenever you attempt, you find yourself back and sticking like before", She argued. Another added that, "You keep going back until you can't anymore".
According to statistics, more ladies are killed in toxic relationships as compared to men. Also, lesser men suffer in the hands of narcissistic women than vice versa. However, men tend to not speak up when in such situations, thus raising concerns.
Narcissism is a mental health condition associated with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. While some may argue that individuals with such conditions also deserve love, people ought to look out for themselves, practice self care and love as no relationship is worth their lives.
This will help decrease the rate of mortality due to toxic relationships.
